We all know when political attacks cross the line. And Bill Heller's opponent, Jeff Brandes, and his supporters have crossed the line. They're now attacking Bill Heller's record as an educator. The fact is Bill Heller is one of USF-St. Petersburg's most respected teachers and administrators. To suggest anything else is politics at its worst.
Bill has taught tens of thousands of college students who went on to be skilled classroom teachers. As Dean and CEO of USF-St. Pete, he was responsible for transforming the campus to a four-year university to allow Pinellas students to get a degree right here at home and attracting new employers to the area. He's brought in millions in grant money for research and programs that benefit school children and the disabled in our community. He rescued the Great Explorations Children's Museum when it was near closing and served as its board president for years, overseeing its move to a new facility and the development of numerous programs that benefit kids of all backgrounds.
Character should matter in elections, and attacking Bill Heller's six decades of commitment to education demonstrates a clear lack of character.
